How we collect, use and protect the information you give us on this website.
Who we are
Education Exemption is a trading name of SGS Ltd, PO Box 565, Guernsey GY1 6JW. SGS Ltd is responsible for the personal information collected through this website. You can contact us about privacy through the contact page.
What we collect
- What you enter in our forms: your name, organisation, role, email, phone number, website, your answers to the eligibility check and any message.
- For adviser referrals: your firm and the type and size of your client, but not your client's identity unless you choose to tell us later.
- Technical information: the page you sent a form from, how you arrived at the site, your browser type and a one-way hash of your IP address that we use to stop spam. We do not store your IP address itself.
- Analytics information from Google Analytics, such as the pages you visit and roughly where you are, which does not identify you by name.
Please do not send us students' personal details through this website.
How we use it
- To reply to you and review your VAT position. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries you send us, and taking steps at your request before any engagement.
- To involve a qualified VAT adviser we work with in your review. We share only what the adviser needs.
- To send email alerts, only if you have asked for them. Our lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- To keep the site secure and free of spam.
- To understand which pages help people, using Google Analytics.
We do not sell your information or use it for unrelated marketing.
Who we share it with
The VAT advisers we work with on your review, and the companies that host our website, database and email, under contracts that protect your information. We may also share information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry records for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows, and to meet legal and professional record-keeping requirements. Enquiries that do not go further are deleted when they are no longer needed. We review what we hold regularly.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it and withdraw consent for alerts or analytics. Contact us through the contact page. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the data protection regulator.
Cookies
We use Google Analytics cookies to count visits and see which pages are used, and one small cookie of our own so the register interest box does not keep popping up. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.
