Talk to our VAT specialist, free and with no obligation
A video call to find out whether the St Patrick's ruling lets you reclaim VAT charged on HNC, HND or English language courses, how much of the four-year window is still open and what a protective claim would involve. It costs nothing and you are not committing to anything.
How it works
- You request a consultationYour name, your organisation and what you teach. It takes about a minute.
- We arrange a callOur VAT specialist gets in touch to agree a time for a video call that suits you.
- The consultationWe go through what you teach, who you teach it for, how fees were invoiced and how VAT was accounted for.
- A straight answerWhether a claim looks worth making, which periods are still in time, the main risks and what would happen next. If it is not worth pursuing, we tell you.

If you decide to go ahead
- We review each course, and each agreement with a university or college, against the St Patrick's ruling and HMRC's Brief 9 (2026).
- We work out the VAT accounted for on those courses period by period, less the input tax that would come off, using a partial exemption method that fits your business.
- We tell HMRC about the errors with full workings, so the oldest periods are protected before they fall out of time.
- We add each new year's periods to the claim while the Supreme Court appeal runs.
- We agree with HMRC how your courses should be treated from now on.
Nothing is sent to HMRC without your approval. More on why timing matters in why claim now.
What it costs
The consultation is free and there is no obligation. If a claim is worth making, you will be told the fee basis in writing before any work starts.
